11 products #aaliyahformac should include in a cosmetics line
The Aaliyah for Mac campaign has garnered much attention from beauty publications, die hard fans, as well as Aaliyah's friends and family. According to the petition, Aaliyah's brother, Rashad Houghton, has stated that MAC was the late singer's favorite cosmetics line and has even gained the support of close friend and rapper Missy Elliott. The petition (found here) has reached over 25,000 signatures in hopes of continuing the singer's legacy in a similar fashion to Selena x MAC. If MAC can legally move forward with an Aaliyah-inspired line, they should absolutely solicit her makeup artist, Eric Ferrell, for direction as he knew and helped craft looks that are extremely relevant today. Listed below are a few of the products that MAC should offer to best reflect Aaliyah's personal brand and timeless style.
I'M NOT JUST ANYBODY METALLIC LIP KIT
Metallic lips are one of best trends of the late '90s-- as indicated by TLC's No Scrubs and Destiny's Child The Writing's on the Wall cover art. Aaliyah's makeup artist went all out with this look, with a green shadow to match. We'd hope to see this trend in an array of colors on MAC shelves— appealing largely to the Pat McGrath consumer.
ONE IN A MILLION HIGHLIGHT & CONTOUR STICK
The greatest thing about Aaliyah's highlight and contour was that there were never any harsh lines. This should be offered as a duo stick so that consumers can have the best of one world, similar to the Sephora face contour duo.
HOT LIKE FIRE CHERRY GLOSSES
Cherry red gloss has made a cameo in a number of Aaliyah videos as she began transitioning her look from Age Ain't Nothin but a Number teeny bopper to Rock the Boat womanhood. MAC should offer bright red lippies to accommodate the older, more regal consumer.
WE NEED A RESOLUTION SHADOW PALETTE & MATCHING LIP KIT
We Need a Resolution was Aaliyah's best hair and makeup visual. The orange shadow and ice blue liner made a cameo in many scenes, including everyone's favorite snake scene. This entire look needs its own packaging-- equipped with the shadow, liner, and a dual gloss that can be worn separately or together.
COME OVER BODY HIGHLIGHTER
Body highlighter is something that has resurfaced as a product of social media. MAC wouldn't be able to keep an Aaliyah-inspired body highlighter from flying off the shelves.
ROCK THE BOAT EYELASH SET WITH MATCHING STONES
These eyelashes are the perfect way to make any subtle look dynamic. Bottom lashes really accentuate the eye color and can take a neutral face to the next level. MAC adding the optional stone would be great for summertime getaway in the Hamptons vibes.
IF YOUR GIRL ONLY KNEW GLOSS TRIO
Gloss was Aaliyah's go-to lip trend— whether it was paired with MAC's Chestnut lip liner or worn with no makeup at all. This lip gloss set should include a translucent gloss for the Lumidee Uh Oh feel, a champagne gloss for an easy transition from the workplace to happy hour, and a deeper red option for when you need Aaliyah's biker look sans bike.
AT YOUR BEST BROW WIZ
Aaliyah always had the best brows, and this is not up for debate. They were always crisp and full in a time when thin eyebrows were on trend. MAC could give Anastasia Beverly Hills a run for their money with an Aaliyah-inspired brow kit.
ONE PIECE NUDE MATTE LIPPIES
The One Piece nude lippies would have to come in various shades to match the women of color who would be lined up to purchase them. There are many red carpet looks of Aaliyah wearing perfect nudes flesh with her skin or a shade or two darker.
MORE THAN A WOMAN SHADOW PALETTE
Aaliyah rarely wore dark shadows, but when she did she went all out. MAC should include crisp blues and dark hues that give women a confident night look. Think Aaliyah in the More Than a Woman video with the sleeked back pony.
I CARE 4 U SHADOW PALETTE
The "no-makeup makeup" was Aaliyah's signature look. MAC should have a Palette dedicated exclusively to hues of browns and pinks to accentuate the features consumers were already blessed with. For the sporty chic women, women who will never be into YouTube tutorials, and women on the go— this palette, accompanied by the One Piece lippie, may be your new best friend.
